The Name Behind the Brand
Deeplay comes from the Chinese word 地陪 (dìpéi), which literally translates to “local companion” — a person who knows their city inside out and guides visitors through authentic, personal experiences.
In Chinese travel culture, a 地陪 is not a formal tour guide. They're a local friend who shows you the real side of a city — the hidden cafes, the best street food, the parks where locals actually go. That warmth and authenticity is exactly what Deeplay is built on.
Our Story
When our founder moved to a new city, he experienced what millions of people do every year — arriving full of excitement but not knowing anyone or where to go. The tourist guides all recommend the same spots. Google Maps can show you directions, but it can't share stories, recommendations, or that feeling of exploring with a friend.
He wished he could just book a local to show him around — someone who genuinely loves their city and wants to share it. Not a tour guide reading from a script, but a real person who knows where to get the best coffee, which laneway has the freshest street art, and where locals actually go on a Saturday morning.
That idea became Deeplay. A platform where verified local Companions share their city with Explorers through real social activities — coffee, meals, city walks, karaoke, and events. No scripts. No tourist traps. Just authentic human connection.
